Something a bit different today! This is just a cool video I found on youtube about the history and operation of electrostatic crts, just like the ones I use for my projects! I even recognize some of the tubes featured in this video!

This is small demonstration of the potential for installations using my CRT Scope and a cassette tape player. The audio controls the direction of the electron beam, creating images. I used some new techniques in this video, including some sub-sonic sin waves to create circles! Sorta. Still needs a lot of tinkering!
Here's some crazy stuff! I got a driver board from Catahoula Technologies, assembled it, wired up the transformer and the small 3" oscilloscope tube, and it works! It visualizes whatever audio is sent into it, through steering the electronics on the x-axis and y-axis (horizontal axis and vertical axis).
This is just so exciting for me, because I've been entranced with this scope visualizer concept for years! I'm planning some cool installation projects with them now that will also utilize my other love - vintage hifi equipment! I'm talking tape loops, radios, vinyl groove loops, the whole thing! This is a short demo video that initially appeared on my instagram @whitebirdblackbird.
I got my chords all tuned up from Voltage Memory, which is controlling the oscillators from the Jupiter Spirits. Beatstep Pro is controlling the drums. This was really fun to record, I really had a good time manually triggering the chord changes.
Voltage Memory has 12 touch-controlled banks of 6 cv outputs. I used 4 outputs to control the notes of the chords, which I also tuned. Based on the harmonic concept I use on guitar, I chose a pattern that is is modal, and not based on any specific key center. This would allow me to access the sounds I prefer harmonically while still giving me variety in the tonal centers. These are the chords I decided on: Cmaj7 - C#-7 - Dmaj7 - Ebmaj7 - E-7 - Fmaj7 - Gmaj7 - Ab-7 - A-7 - Bbmaj7 - B-7 This creates the pentatonic framework for several different keys. There aren't any dominant seventh chords, which isn't ideal, but with the style of music I plan on performing with this setup, I don't think it'll matter all that much! The next steps I'd like to take with this setup is to add more of my own samples to the BSP, or to add some guitar or bass into the mix, ideally with live looping from the Squid Salmple!
nothing crazy here, just some cool new music ideas with some cool new eurorack modules!!
I was so excited about releasing the speak no evil tape that I recorded a whole new song and made a little video for it! dig it:
It's so nice to have time to just explore things and try new sounds and ideas.
My first cassette tape release!!! I'm so happy and excited!!! Thank you so much to everyone who preordered, and I look forwards to performing this music after the lockdown!!!
The tape comes with a little zine, too. I like to share with people even if it requires reading. It's available HERE at my bandcamp!!! New video from the youtube channel, exploring fears about socializing and being a bird. |
