Atari Punk Baby
My friend gave me a doll head like a year ago, and I finally did something with it. Pretty standard affair, a pair of 555 timers linked together with controls that affect the relationship between the two. Very cool and very easy! |
Eurorack
I build synths! I used to work for Zlob Modular in Chicago, where I learned a lot about synths, but I also do my own DIY and Kit projects! Here's some of the stuff that I've built for my own use!

AKAI MPC (Midi Production Center)
I really love sampling, and the use of samples to make completely new sounds and music. Old-school hip-hop, new-school noise music, it's all really hip and really fun! My favorite tool for the job is the MPC, of which I am grateful to own several iterations. In addition to owning and loving them, I also repair them.

Although I really dislike the filter on the MPC 2000xl, it's an amazing piece of hardware. It just does everything I could want, and does it quickly! I recently upgraded it with an 8 Outs board, a CF card reader, and really cool pads. it was really easy to install everything, as the 2000xl (and 2000 classic) are very modular and accessible.
This is what I use for most of my work now, since it is so quick. I highly recommend that everyone try one of these samplers out, as I greatly prefer it to any modern piece of gear, for everything from beat-making to ambient glitchy soundscapes! |
This is my MPC 2000. I love it dearly. When I got it, it needed some repairs. The process is documented below. I considered upgrading to an MPC 2000xl, but I've grown so close to this one that I wasn't really interested in getting another one (i did eventually trade my mpc 1000 for a 2000xl). That said, the use of floppy disks is a massive pain in the ass, especially when I need to spread a program over multiple disks. But hey, it sounds and FEELS fantastic, and that's really what matters.

I also came across a busted S20 Phrase Sampler, and plan on repairing that eventually, as well. I'm not sure how far I'll get, since it seems to be missing an EPROM. I'm not too mad about it, though, since I got it for free, and I already have some wonderful samplers to choose from!
Update: This poor baby is missing an EEPROM, so it's gone for good. Rip in peace... :( |
